Dubai Waste to Energy Plant (DWE) - (Dubai, UAE)

BESIX and its partners carry out one of the world’s largest waste-to-energy plants to be built in a single phase.

This major project, procured by Dubai Municipality, consists of a Waste-to-Energy plant, located at the former Warsan landfill site. The facility will treat 1,900,000 tons of municipal solid waste per year and feed 200MW of electricity into the local grid. Its size and capacity make this facility one of the largest in the world. The project is structured as a BOT and initial project costs amounts to 1.1 billion USD.

It marks an important contribution to Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai Plan 2021 to making the Emirate one of the most sustainable cities in the world.

Jewel of the Creek (Dubai, UAE)

Jewel of the Creek is a 1 million sqm mixed use development in the Port Saeed area of Deira occupying a strategic location at the north shore of Dubai Creek. The project incorporates mix of residential, commercial, hospitality and recreational use and will transform this location to a vibrant urban centre and the prominent landmark in the heart of Dubai.

Our team members were also involved in Phase 1 of this project, specifically related to fire stopping works, in coordination with the main contractor and the MEP contractor

National Trust Heritage Site (Midlands, UK)

Following a comprehensive compartmentation survey at a late 1800s National Trust property in the Midlands, a series of critical fire stopping works were undertaken as part of ongoing refurbishment efforts. These included sealing multiple service penetrations within a large open roof space to reinstate fire compartment lines, applying specialist fire-resistant treatments to exposed historic timber elements, and implementing general fire stopping measures throughout the building.

All works were carried out with sensitivity to the building’s heritage status, ensuring compliance with current fire safety regulations while preserving its historic character.

Science Centre, Private School (Warwickshire, UK)

As part of the construction of a new science centre at a private school in Warwickshire, comprehensive fire stopping and air/acoustic sealing works were carried out.

The scope included sealing around service penetrations and installing fire-resistant barriers to maintain compartmentation, alongside acoustic and air sealing between classrooms to support a quiet, controlled learning environment.

The project posed logistical challenges due to being conducted during term time, requiring careful coordination and minimal disruption to staff and students.

All works were delivered to a high standard while adhering to safety, acoustic, and fire compliance requirements.
